Maine Death with Dignity, a grassroots movement of over 160 volunteers, is collaborating with lawmakers in Augusta to pass an Oregon-model Death with Dignity law.
LD 1313, An Act to Enact the Maine Death with Dignity Act, was introduced on March 19, 2019. The bill language builds on the legislature’s two most recent attempts to pass the law (LD 1270, 2015, and LD 347, 2017) with additional safeguards to create the most comprehensive, safe-guarded draft to date.
Sponsored by Representative Hymanson of York, the bill has strong bipartisan co-sponsorship.
